Ant hills forming on my brand new lawn - HELP!!!

Posted by ymv13 Essex. UK (My Page) on

I had new turf laid on Saturday. The gardeners removed some old ant hills digging deep to remove the nests before leveling with top soil.

I noticed this morning that small mounds of earth have appeared all over the lawn. The ants are back!!!

What can I do? The new lawn will be ruined before it has even had time to establish.

Assuming there is no water ban, you can water the lawn to stop it drying too much.

The ants are probably mating in this weather. are thetre jackdaws and other birds viewing them from nearby trees? After the weather changes for the cooler they will stop swarming.

There is a poison you can or could get for them. Borax in syrup I think it is. Your local garden centre will put you right. Whatever, don't fret overmuch just yet.
