HELP!!!!! Diseased Tomato Plants
| | |
Posted by pcsqueen Mons, Belgium (My Page) on Tue, Aug 2, 05 at 13:52
While June was very dry and warm; we here in Mons have had three weeks of coolish, rainy weather.
I went out to my vegetable patch this morning and noticed that (overnight, it seems) two of my ten tomato plants are exhibiting signs of either a bacterial or viral infection.
The leaves, stems are turning black, and some fruit has begun to rot.
In the States, I'd know where to turn and what to buy (Daconil) to try to combat the spread of the disease.
Here, I'm a little lost. So, if anyone can direct me to a product that's readily available on the Continent, I'd greatly appreciate it.
PS. My beans are exhibiting powdery mildew, if you can believe that.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice. |

| It's a small comfort, but you could take cuttings form the healthy tomato plants and grow them on under plastic to give them extra warmth needed to come to flowering/fruiting. They don't take long at all to develop roots. Extend the season. Any luck with using 1 teaspoon of baking soda (bicarbonate) and 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid to a litre, sprayed on the beans? |

| Sounds like tomato blight. If you are organic burn the plants and try a blight resistant variety next year. I find Harbinger is not too bad, much better than Gardeners Delight anyway. If you use chemicals find one for blight (a fungal disease). I doubt there's time to start new plants before the outdoor tomato season is over in N Europe. |
