Japanese Wineberry

I've just seen a Japanese wineberry growing at Heligan and would love to acquire it to grow over an arch in my garden. I already have an arch covered with a thornless blackberry and it is very successful. Does anyone have any experience of this very attractive plant? Is it likely to respond to the arch treatment and are the yields worthwhile? Also, how thuggish is it? There's plenty of room at Heligan, I can only spare a small bit of space!

I live in Norfolk and have one growing on my allotment. I wouldent describe as thuggish. I try to take a cutting for you if you wish. Aub

That is very kind of you to offer. Searching on the net, bare-rooted ones might be available for around a fiver, so I'll try to get one of those so that it'll get going earier. It might be a good idea to take some cuttings anyway as it does look like an attractive plant and it's always nice to have some to give away. If it's anything like a blackberry it'll root easily enough!
