Hi Alix, I am not sure if you mean that you have flagstones or just a base of concrete with the triangle in the middle. If you have flagstones, an idea would be to take up some of these, dig the area over and put some good soil in. Then just plant up with plants and shrubs that you like. If you want it formal then make a pattern out of the slabs. If it is all concrete and you don't want pots, is it possible to take up the stones out of the middle triangle? If so an idea would be to put an obelisk there and grow the clematis up and through it. I don't know if that helps at all. As for the 5 inches and 9 inches round the edge of the concrete it can be planted up no problems. One thought would just be with lots of bulbs in the smaller one that would flower in the spring. Lovely dafodils, tulips, dwarf Iris etc or little alpine plants that would spread across and soften the edges of the concrete. I am sure that other people will come up with lots of other ideas. Good luck. Alison |
