Long flowering plants

What plants do you recommend for their long flowering? Mine is Erodium manescavii. It has flowered since late spring and is still going. Geranium wallichii comes a good second.
If anyone has recommendations for long flowering pinks and border carnations I would be interested.

For me the record has to go to Nemesia denticulata (pink). I bought it as a small plug in Spring 04 and it has remained outside in a container in a sheltered spot and, apart from a small break during the coldest part of the winter, has been in flower ever since. As a bonus, it has a faint, but very pleasant, scent.

Those little nemesias are good, aren't they? If they get too leggy, you can cut them back and they will shoot again. I have even had one seed itself in my drive!

I'd give Scabiosa columbaria 'Butterfly Blue' and 'Pink' pixie points for rarely being out of flower winter and summer (in this zone).

I've grown some Malva from seed (very cheap seed from Lidl, don't know the species!), they flowered all through the summer and have only just died back. They came up in slightly different shades of purple and dark blue.
Geraniums - again, sorry, can't remember the species - one pink, one blue, flowered non-stop.
French marigolds, also grown from free or cheap seed, fabulous clumps of deep orange for months and months.
But my top favourite for working hard are two of the roses I acquired with the house - one is tagged as 'Flaming Sunset' but flowers pale yellow, and blooms from mid June till November. The other is a pink climber - it started in early June this year, and keeps coming back right into the winter. Last year it had a flower open on Christmas day.

Pelargonium, white
This common as compost white has flowered non-stop :)

there is a fabulous hardy geranium - Rozanne - which is just the best 'doer' i have had. Also, rudbeckias and echinacea seem to go on and on. Agyrythrum -margeurites - flower profusely and endlessly. Knautia macedonica and arctotis - 2 i have in my gravel garden which seem to last forever. Convolvulous sabatini (I think) does on all summer, penstemons, if deadheaded, aster frikartii monch, abutilons - seem to go on all winter too if brought indoors. Wall flower 'Bowles Mauve', callirhoe (poppy mallow) and osteospermums, especially jucundum (mainly purples and pinks ....talking of which, my pinks have also been good all summer.

I've had geraniums Rosanne and Ann Folkard in flower for months, but it's my first year growing both of them, so I've no idea when they will stop.
Also Erigeron karvinskianus Profusion goes on and on. My anthemis has been pretty good. It's a cream one, sold as EC Buxton, but I think it might be Sauce Hollandaise. I have given it one chop during the summer, but it was soon in full flower again. I'm very pleased with the coreopsis Early Sunrise I grew from seed last year. It's been in flower since June and is showing no signs of stopping. My Bidens flowers right into the winter, but it's in quite a sheltered spot.

I would be intereted to know whether anyone has a long flowering climber. I understand some clematis go on for a long time.

For a pond plant, I've been extremely impressed with Myosotis 'Mermaid'. It started flowering in March and it's still going, and survived being frozen last winter.

Also Gaura lindheimeri looks like it's going to get at least three months' flowering this year.

Amanda - Try clematis Freckles for long flowering - mine started flowering a couple of weeks ago,and if last year is anything to go by, it will flower on and off all winter. Give it a sheltered spot though.

Wow I didn't realise the clematis freckles flowered this soon. I have jingle bells which I think is the same family it's the first year so I've not seen the blooms yet. For a long blooming clematis Arabella is the longest blooming clematis but also hardy geraniums :)

Esthomizzy - I do live in a mild spot, though London is quite mild too. I also have C balearica which does not start till much later.
I forgot vinca difformis - that starts in November and carries on until March. Has plans for world domination though!

RE: Long flowering plants

Thanks for the tips about climbers.
I have clematis Jingle Bells which has just started to bud up. It's the first year though, so I'll be interested to see how it does. Freckles is closely related, so I'll keep an eye out for that as well.
Passion flowers sound like a good idea too. I grew some from seed several years ago, but have since moved house, so didn't see them at maturity.

Clematis viticella 'Blue Angel' flowered all summer and so did erigeron 'Darkest of All' (Dunkelste Aller). I agree about the longevity of anthemis, all varieties are still in flower, after deadheading in August. Viola 'Boughton Blue' also flowered incredibly long.

My choice this year has been the Agapanthus-like Tulbaghia. Started flowering in June in is still going strongly.
