RHS Master of Horticulture Award

| I'm from the States and have limited experience in gardening (but I am hoping to change that over the years to come . . . ). In my research for horticultural based education and/or certification, I have come across RHS and it's levels of qualification. What does the Master of Horticulture qualification mean in terms of the market place? Does it really carry a lot of clout? Does one who earns it automatically place themselves at the front of the line to be the next head gardener/designer at Sissinghurst? What value does it really bring to it's holder . . . ?
I thank you in advance for any light that you might shed on this inquiry

| Master of Horticulture is well respected, I think - you don't see many people gaining the qualification. I'm not sure it'd guarantee a job immediately, but it's a way of proving your knowledge. The downside is that you'll probably need to get the RHS Level 2/Diploma/Advanced qualifications first.. But if you're looking for a head gardener job, I think the more common route is to perhaps get a basic horticulture qualification and work your way up through the ranks.. :) |

Intresting, there are not many questioning this study... I dont recomend you or anyone study this! It is only a Degree level education, somehow it gained the title masters. I understand that the letters after your name are only 'in house' recoginsed. When I looked into the course I tried to find some comments from people who have studied and completed it, and came up with nothing. There is MOUNTAINS of information about what the course provides however. I completed my own resarch and found some discreprences such as the titles after your name are not listed on education and titles explanation sites (namely MHort (RHS)). I was also secptical that a Diploma student was 'allowed' to be able to imediatly go to Masters level from gaining a Diploma and enough experince. Think it may be best to avoid this one. I have decided to study a Undergrauate in Horticulture at a University instead. My rating, Studdy at your own peril! |
