Monkey puzzle problem

| I saw a monkey puzzle in a garden the other day, and it's trunk was covered in horrible ooze. The tree looked otherwise healthy - about 20 feet high, and only the few branches at the bottom were brown and dead, which seemed reasonable for a tree that height, but all down one side ofthe trunk, up as far as I could see, was this ooze. Low down, it was brown and looked like resin, up high, it was whitish and looked like candle wax.
Is there any hope for the tree? Can anyone shed any light as to what it might be?

| Resin, from a wound somewhere. It may or may not be a serious problem, resin bleeding is common and doesn't always mean there's anything badly wrong. The health of the foliage suggests it is probably OK. Resin |

| Thanks resin, you've put my mind at rest. I thought the foliage looked fine. A question of wait and see perhaps? Thanks again Linda |
