 o
clippings from conifers

Hi. As will become apparent, I don't know much about gardening, but I would appreciate any advice.

We have conifer type trees along both our back and front gardens, they are about 15-20 feet high and there is about 150-200 ft of them in total. Although they belong to our neighbours we (I!) keep them quite nicely trimmed on our sides so they are more like a hedge, which we prefer as it keeps them from hanging over into our garden. When I trim them back, and especially when I take the tops off as well, we get a massive pile of clippings which takes me ages to take to the recycling place in our little trailer. Would it be possible to use a shredder to chop them all smaller and then put them on our flower beds? Our soil is very clay-ey, so I wondered if adding this sort of thing might be good for the soil, as well as saving me carrying all that rubbish about.

Thanks in advance for any advice, sorry I rambled on a bit.

Cheers, Moose.

Certainly, shred away. I compost mine. They tend to be a bit woody and go well with some grass clippings, your's might be greener.

Thanks for the quick reply... sorry I didn't acknowledge it earlier, I lost where I'd posted the question!!

I wonder if you have space to put the shedded stuff under potatoes. I gather that they thrive on acid clay. With plenty of organic matter like that they'd keep clean too.
