good houseplants for dark corner

| I want a nice, quite big plant for a darkish corner of a north-facing room (not so dark that you can't read in it on a reasonably bright day). My Weeping fig doesn't seem to like it, and while the Dracaena puts up with it stoically, it doesn't actually grow. I know the peace lily will cope, but I really want something bigger. Was thinking of a rubber plant, or swiss cheese plant? Or one of those umbrella papyrussy things? |

Fatsia japonica should be okay in that sort of location (there's a variegated version available). Also several palms appreciate shade, e.g. - Rhapis excelsa (Lady palm) - Howea forsteriana (Kentia palm) - Chamaedorea metallica (a relative of the parlour palm) I should think a rubber plant (Ficus elastica) would do well; we have one in a north-facing room and it's growing wel. It's a very attractive cultivar with cream and pink variegation. |

| We have a Spathyhyllum in a fairly murky corner. And there's always the good old Aspidistra. |

| I had a swiss cheese plant in a very dark corner for many years, cutting it down at intervals. When it finally outgrew its space I sold it for about £20 via the local paper! |
