Can someone help me ID this flower?

It's growing in an Australia garden, but I've gotten hints from the web that it might also be commonly grown in the UK:

Any ideas?

Yes, it is grown here, it was very fashionable about 5 years ago. D*amned if I can remember the name, though. Age!!

Looks great when at its peak but goes to seed rather rapidly. Easy enough to grow from seed.

Cerinthe major?

Yup. Cerinthe major 'Purpurascens'. Needs a very well-drained soil, otherwise it's disappointing and floppy, in my experience! Very easy from seed.
