Need Eryngium Search Help

I am trying to identify the plant shown in the photo below. I photographed it at the Royal Botanic Gardens in 1993. The flowers are unusually large for an Eryngium, I'd say about 3" high by 4-5" wide. I have determined that it is not 'Blue Star' nor 'Amethystinum'. Can anyone help me with identification? Does anyone know a source for the plant? Thank you.

It is a variety of Eryngium alpinum, l grow this, and it is very pretty, and they are available in the USA, but l find that there are more varieties on offer in England, than your country. You can grow them from seed, but it is quite tricky.

Thanks Hawthorne Cottage for your response.Do you have any idea of the name of this variety? I have a friend who would really like to try one but needs more info to find it. Also , what makes it difficult to grow from seed ? Thanks again for your help. Kareen
