pyrancantha grown from seed

Does anyone know how long it takes a pyracantha to start bearing flowers/berries after being grown from seed, as opposed to a cutting? I ask because there's a self-sown one in my garden. I think it may have been in its second year this year and is looking very healthy and thorny, but nothing to show in the berry department yet.

I'd guess inside 10 years, but not a lot inside, maybe anything from about 7-10.

The flowers are borne on the shoots which grew the previous year so there is an inevitable age requirement, but I'd have thought sooner than 7 years. These are vigorous things. Hard to know just what you'll get from seed though, most cultivated plants are vegetatively propagated cultivars.

Wow, 7-10 years, long time! I know I was going to ask the same thing about pomegranates as I also have a flowerless one of those grown (deliberately) from seed 2 years ago but when I googled it, the consensus seemed to be around 5 years.

Ah well, the pyracantha's in a convenient spot, I may just leave it be.

The seed grown ones I've had pop up were all inferior in the foliage, flower, form and berry departments to the named cultivars. But if it's out of the way you can always wait and see.
