Hallo to all from a newbie.
Could someone give a little advice to a project that we have been considering for some time. We have a quite a few acres of land in the UK Channel Islands that we are planning to landscape and use to plant in order to have a beautiful area to visit, and to form the backdrop to a tourist attraction, including a tea garden, and possibly a restaurant. Bearing in mind that the tourist season lasts approx. six months a year, and that any plants would be left alone for periods during the winter, what plants would be viable candidates?
Many thanks to anyone who can give any pointers.
Happy New Year to all,
Rupert.

Hello Rupert,
You are a lucky man! Quite a few acres in the Channel Islands - fabulous! Which island is it on? You don't say what sort of soil and exposure you have and what level of showiness and maintenance you are looking for. For example, are the plantings to be attractive and practical or are you looking to have a display garden of unusual plants, shrubs, trees?
I'm not a professional landscaper, I do however enjoy helping my friends with their garden planning and plantings. If nothing else it gives me people to pass my extra plants on to!
Good luck, Blanka
