Hi i'm a new member & hoping someone can help me with my french lavender bush. I've had it for 5 years now & it flowers beautifully every year, sometimes twice. I cut it back each year but it's looking stragly & unkempt now, I tried to re pot it this year but couldn't get it out of it's pot. How hard can I cut it back? Should it be replace? Can I take cuttings & when?
Sorry for all the questions

RE: Lavender

Hi Sandra,
You would get better advice if you posted on the gardening part of this forum (or told them that you have placed a question and picture on the pond gallery) as they are probably a bit better informed. Although of course us 'pondaholics' also have lovely gardens.
I think you have done well to have the lavender flowering for the past five years. My lavender is just flowering now so if yours is the same I would wait until it finished and take cuttings from the new growth. Take short lengths of this years new growth and pot them up using a bit of rooting powder. At least that is how I would attempt it. But I am no expert at all so that is why I would advise you to post on the gardening part. I don't know how hard you can cut back, but sometimes when they get a bit leggy it is worth starting with new ones instead. If you are interested in the ponds as well you can see mine and my garden if you go to www.the-horsfalls.co.uk
Good luck with the lavender and any other questions you may have. Whereabouts are you in Yorkshire? I live in Leeds in West Yorkshire
Yorkshire is such a lovely place to live with the lovely dales not too far away.
Alison
