| Over the winter I have built a another pond (no 3) and have liner showing above the water level.I need some plants to hang over the edge of the pond to hide the liner. ie they would grow above the pond and dangle into the water. Any ideas?? |

At the moment I find Creeping Jenny ideal for this as it grows from the side into the water where it also puts down roots and spreads. Hides the liner well. The 'downside' is that it dies back in Winter exposing the liner again! Sue |

I was going to suggest the same thing Sue. My creeping Jenny hasn't completely died back this year so is still green in places. I am hoping to get it growing well over the pond sides as I have a bit of liner showing as well. Alison |

The part of the Creeping Jenny plant that's in the water never seems to die back. Another thing I like about this plant is you can also throw it in the water where it will put down roots and act as a floater. It's as versatile as watercress and stays green all winter. I also have a varigated ivy hiding my smaller filter which has 'draped' itself into the pond. I read in an American Forum that 'English Ivy' is poisonous to fish but I've had this for many years with no problems. Marginal plants in strategic places will of course also hide exposed liner during their growing season. Sue |

| Erm.. couch grass? *grin* Actually, we have some 'snow in summer' which doesn't do a bad job of sprawling.. And the aquatic Myosotis 'Mermaid' has covered a lot of our liner, tho that's one to put in the pond rather than outside it. Melanie |

I've got 'Mind Your Own Business' which is taking over around the edge of the pond. This tends to lean down over the edge, so maybe you could try it. I'm in West London where it doesn't die down in the winter, but in Liverpool where I'm originally from, it turns brown over winter. Big Kid |
