If you have a pond, or know of a pond locally, Please take a few minutes to fill in The Big Thaw 2011 survey on the Pond Conservation website.

Here: http://www.pondconservation.org.uk/b...thawformonline

They are trying to track the effects of ponds being frozen for so long this year, and having snow on them.

Please fill it in whether ot not you have fish or amphibians in the pond, or whether or not you have noticed any deaths of pond creatures.

Any size of pond is suitable.
If you have more than one pond, fill in a separate for for each.

ps I have had 2 frogs dead in my pond for the first time ever.

Hi Dampflippers,

I'll certainly fill this in.

So sorry to hear about your frog loss this year. I've seen seven of my eight goldfish, but no body, so the other might still be around. Yesterday (12th. Feb) I saw a bit of movement on the pond and there were two frogs, but no frogspawn. It's really early but my blackbird was also building her nest yesterday.

I was badly frozen up, but I used my invention again of pieces of pipe from an old vacuum cleaner, with the ends tied inside plantpots (to stop snow blocking the holes.) This leaves escape holes for any bad gas to escape. My pond's only about 22inches at the deepest point. Maybe I should patent my invention and make a mint!!
