Spring has spawned!

| The lads have been gathering for about a month, and the girls joined last week. This morning there were several clumps of frog spawn, and it sounds like another very noisy night! It's only early february, and far to early for my liking. It takes ages for them to develop as it does stay cold until much later.
But now the other ritual begins, picking out plants to order for the pond. I have a problem as I have plenty of green and cover and it now looks quite lush over the summer, but not enough colour. It's a 'wild' pond as opposed to a formal one. I have water forget-me-nots through most of the summer, but they are very small. The iris's are growing in number, but they are rather short lived. There are marsh marigolds and arum lilies, but they tend to be a bit on the white side I am partial to blues and yellows. The pond is shady midday, with a lot of sun in the summer early and late in the day. I have tried water violets, but the snails seem to love them before they get a chance to bloom!
Anyone have any favourites they can suggest, and or ways of keeping the colour for longer?

Congratulations to the proud parent! Have you entered it in Spring watch? I too have never seen my water violet flower due to the snails! Yellow- yellow flag and primrose willow (Ludwigia)...but this one isn't native. |

try pickerel plants - they come in a lovely blue shade and also white. I bought a kit from Morrisons Supermarket last July and within six weeks they were growing and flowering! SandyN PS. At last! My OH gave me a digital camera for my birthday last week and give me some time and practice and I will be putting my little effort of a pond on the site to view. |

| Many thanks, I have looked these plants up and they look like they will do the job. I've also logged onto Springwatch, and now keeping an eye out for bumblebees! Have fun with the camera! I have not figured out yet how to put pics on line, so if anyone can give easy instructions it would be greatly appreciated! |

You have to save the pics to your album or your documents. Then go to the gallery page. Start a thread and write your blurb. Click preview. THEN you get a browse box. Click this and browse in your computer till you find the photo. (remember it's name and where you ssaved it to). Whan it's the right one, click submit and wait for a while. The max size you can upload is quite low, so you will have to reduce the size of your photo and save it before you upload it. |
