i have just used up the last of my compost for pond plants, its Aquatic compost, supposed to be more suitable for use in pond as it is not as "rich" as normal compost.
i have plenty of "normal compost". Question... is it a sales blurb as re. the Aquatic compost or could one actually use the normal stuff. |

| normal compost will have far too many nutrients in it and really isn't suitable for ponds. A lot of us on here do not use any compost, we use pea gravel instead. |

| Like Linda/Clive said. And I think even "aquatic" compost has too many nutrients in it for pond use. The times I've used it, I've gotten huge mats of blanket weed hanging off the planters in short order. I assume it contributes to green water too. I'm sure it gives your plants good start, but I wouldn't use it now, unless it was to get a plant established before actually putting it in the pond. Oh and the other difference vs "normal" compost is that it has lots of grit or something mixed in to weigh it down and help keep it from floating away. |
