i have just expanded my pond from 6ftx5ft to 14ftx9ft, it took my daughter and i 3 weeks and several bayling out`s to get it done. I had 5 golden orfe 12 minnows and a cat fish in the small pond, because they were in a relatively small container for 3 weeks, i decided to put them straight back into the pond, in the small pond i hardly saw the minnows, but in the larger pond i can see them shoaling all the time with the golden orfe, so i am glad that i kept them. My delema is with the cat fish,i read in a well informed book "i would never put a catfish in my pond" but there was no explanation as to why, does anyone have an answer.

They tend to eat your fish when they get big and hungry thats why lol, cat fish are mainly scavengers, but they will take a sleepy fish if its availiable and some catfish can get rather large rather quick!

European catfish or Wels are predators capable of growing to 200-300lb and 8' long. They'll eventually eat the other fish in the pond, so not a great pond fish.
