Where have they gone.

All through the winter i have been able to look out of my window and see my 4 golden orfe, and on a good day some of my 10 minnows, this morning NOTHING eight hours later still nothing, the water is crystal clear, so no problem there, there is plenty of cover, but normally the orfe can be seen at anytime. I fear maybe a Heron has visited early this morning, and either taken or scared them all, not the best present for my 47th wedding anniversary. I have`nt given up hope completely, but i am not optomistic. derek.

Really sorry to hear about the fish--it must be quite a shock. Hopefully they are hiding. Has anyone tried or had any success with the rubber snake suggestion to discourage Heron? Best wishes to you both for your anniversary,

it happens a lot actually, even in clear water, especialy this time of year, youc an be convinced the pond is empty, but they are still there, wouldnt be supprised if you see your again in a week or so, its an odd thing that most pond keepers have experienced at some point, dont worry about it just yet.

Thanks for your best wishes chippewacat, and thanks for your confidence that they will reappear,i saw one orfe yesterday so that is good news, i can understand how easy it would be for a heron to take the orfe as they tend to stay near the top even at this time of year, but the minnows are altogether different, harder to see, and stay closer to the bottom.

Well it`s nearly a week since the heron came to call, i have seen one three inch minnow and one of last years fry. If i look out of the bedroom window any evening at dusk i can see one golden orfe, and it searches every corner of the pond looking for its friends to no avail, its very sad to see. This is the second time in 3yrs that a heron has called, i am seriously thinking of turning my pond into a wild life pond, and forgetting about fish altogether.
