Well the ducks I would chase off, the heron I would learn to live with, I would guess a lot of your pond is too deep for it. If it can wade the pond then an electric fence from the likes of drival with a battery powered voltage source. Re the pond, it looks like it has been there a long time, a proper village pond, well done |

| Would this be a good time to try out the rubber snake idea? |

| The rubber snake idea? Anything must be better than running down the garden at 5:30 in the morning in my trend setting 'sensible' pyjamas!!! There are 2 vulnerable pond areas where the marginals are planted, otherwise - sheer drop, so heron proof (I hope) Sean... I am chuffed... the waterlily leaves are emerging. And I'm very disappointed with you Mr Mckinney for not sharing you party pics over here on the Off Topic thread!!! |

| I can't remember who Kazzie, so whoever it is please forgive me for pinching the idea--but someone uses a rubber snake in the pond and their pond is the only one in the area without a heron. The neighbours probably giggle a bit when looking over the fence, but no heron! Great low tech idea. |

H Kazzie. Snake sound's good. I was looking through e/bay the other day and came across a floating rubber crocodile's head. Look's really lifelike. 18 inches long. Went for £20 but like I said "so lifelike".(Crocodile dundee would'nt come near never mind the Heron) I looked for another but wether the photo was poor quality or whatever, the second did'nt look as good. Even if it does'nt fool the Heron etc, It's a good talking point. Type Crocodile in e/bay and check it out. Good luck. |

My sister left a plastic crocodile in our pond after she visited last year. It sits next to the pond on the opposite side to where the herons land, so it obviously doesn't work! But try a snake for a toy shop or market. Get a super soaker for the ducks. Not the sort you have to pump several times then press a trigger. You want one with a sliding trigger (slide about 6 inches long) or a hose pipe. |

Built it and they WILL come! [lol] How fantastic - your own Country park complete with lake! Realistically can't see how you can stop the native wildlife using this 'naturalistic' large pond. |

| David, I will now remember, you're the rubber snake guy! |

| I'm gonna get a snake, too, before I have a visit from a Heron. Thanks for the tip, David. |

| feed the ducks! shoot the heron lol no we cant get away with that doh! davids been advocating snakes for ages maybe we should all try it - i mean its not like were likely to bring on a rash of mongeese attacks is it? (is that the correct plural? lol) ponds looking good tho kazzie o/ |

| Its the ducks that worry me more than the heron... does the snake deter both? I can make it difficult for the heron to access the shelves (a job for this weekend). As for the neighbours thinking I'm NUTS Alan... they won't need any further persuation about this! I'm sort of with you in a way Sue (which makes a case for having a smaller ornamental pond on the patio)... its just that the ducks could mess up the plants in the big pond and possibly muddy the grass there too. |

I'm handy with recipies Kazzie, you only have to ask.. it's the plucking that I don't like. The pond is looking fantastic. It makes a lovely photo ducks and all. I'm with Sue here though, and wonder how without superhuman effort you'll deter the local wildlife taking advantage of such lovely accomodation. It was just as well you had your Jim Jams on my girl.. :-) ! |

| Jo... your o/ signature continues to baffle me. Is it a code or something? Well Linda... I don't know how I missed your recipe offer. My preference would be something to compliment a healthy dollop of tartar sauce, now let me think....
We've been here before girl, haven't we!!! |

Kazzie, It's ok to cook them as long as they don't have names. Once I've named them, pest or not, I just couldn't eat them! So, really, that means those ducks of yours are fair game |
