Can 1 year old goldfish breed?

The wildlife pond was filled Sept 2003 and initially I dumped in about 50 1" 2003 fry.
Later that year I added sticklebacks and some trout fingerlings. The goldfish numbers rapidly diminished. Some time in 2004 I saw two 2"-3" goldfish in there and that was it for the year, this year I have removed a big heafty 3" goldfish from the wildlfie pond and suspect that its partner from last year is still there.
About an hour ago I saw a 1" fish that was the wrong shape and swam in the wrong way for a stickleback, it wasnt sinuous enough for a trout and I must conclude it was a small goldfish.
The question is where did it come from? I dont remember shifting plants from the fish pond to the wildlife pond so either the one year olds bred or its a runt or its is an egg transfer via a bird etc from the fish pond. I'll be right up the creek if there are more.

Hmmmm where they heck has the one I saw come from then, I dont want to establish a population in there. It cant be this year's surely, at 1" it has to be too big for that.

I was surprised to see a fully grown large male Stickleback in full breeding colours in my wildlife pond last week.
I didn't put it there!!
I transferred a few REALLY tiny ones late last year but haven't a clue where this one came from!

I used to breed Goldfish in 3 ponds varying from 800 up to 5000 gallons, and what i found was that you'd have some absolutely HUGE fry (which i have to say i suspect was from eating anything that would fit in their mouths - including siblings! Ive witnessed it in the much smaller newly hatched phase, so i suspect it must also occur in the juvenile stage too) and some really stunted ones (that usually never coloured up and stayed the dunn olive colour), so it may be that you simply have siblings there - one a throwback to the much smaller wild type ancestry, and 2 greedy guts who polished off the rest of the brood!!
