Sulking goldfish?

| Can anyone tell me if there is anything wrong with one of my latest acquisitions? I bought a 7-8" (male I was assured!) goldfish a month ago. At first he seemed quite happy to mix with the other pond inhabitants but for the past week or so he is to be found on one of the ledges hiding in shallow water, facing the side of the pond, between two plant pots. He stays there for hours on end. There are no wounds to be seen and I have not seen any of the other fish annoying him. He's not eating either. Do goldfish sulk? What could be the reason for such strange behaviour?

Tricia, I've had koi behave like this, could be a parasite problem. You could try a salt bath at 3oz/gall for 10 mins (MUST be pure salt no anti-caking agents), if the fish 'goes over' return it to the pond immediately. I'm not sure if all koi treatments can be used on goldfish, check this website www.fishdoc.co.uk . Chris. |

| Hi jo/Chris, He is not feeding at all, but none of the fish seem very keen on feeding even though the water temperature is around 12-14C. I prepared a salt water tank for him, but he was just so fast I was unable to net him. He was down in the depths in a wink! I had no luck when I tried a second time and since I didn't want to sress him - or the other fish - too much I have decided to buy some Medifin and try treating the whole pond. Hopefully, he will pick up soon. If not, I shall take him back to the aquatics centre! Tricia |
