Also the fish keep jumping out of the water.
The water is a green colour and smells as though it is stagnent I have had the water tested and was told that every thing is fine there.
I have added tetra pond Medifin how long before it starts to work and any other advise please as I am loosing about two fish per day.

I wonder if a partial water change would help anyway? Maybe up to a quarter and refill slowly with spray attachment on hose and tap water conditioner.

The green water itself shouldn't be a problem- it just means there are microscopic plants which form the bottom of the food chain.

As for your fish- I'm not an experty on them, so I hope someone else will answer.

How long have you had the pond and the fish?
Do you have a filter or a pump and fountain at all?
Do you feed them?
Have you recently introduced new fish?
What sort of fish are they?
How big is the pond? and how many fish?
What size fish?

RE: Poorly Fish

I have had the pond about eight years,I did a partial water change about three weeks ago.
Yes I have a filter and pump, I started to feed them after the winter about two weeks ago it is quite warm here in Devon.
They are mainly gold fish but I do have a carp of kinds I am not sure what make it is but it belongs to the carp family it is nearly two foot long I would be heart broken if I lost her.
The pond holds about fifteen hundred gallons and I must have about thiry fish but most of them are very small about three or four inches long I have been loosing mainly my bigger fish about six or seven inches long the smaal one's seem to over come what ever it is, having said that my daughter bought two small shubumkins about three weeks ago from a garden center they have gone (I wonder)
I have been to a proper kio dealer and he sold me some medifin I put that in on Friday I lost one fish Saturday and another Sunday but to day nothing and they do seem to be looking a bit better so fingers crossed.
Mind you the big carp don't seem to be any better or if so only slightly I am hoping we have turned the corner now.
thanks for the reply and any idea's would be welcome.

RE: Poorly Fish

Hi, I don't have big fish (only native stickelbacks) so can't help there, but was going to suggest getting advice from someone local to you who has been helpful to me in the past. I am thinking of the pond centre in the TQ12 area on the back road to the English Riviera?

Hopefully I am being both specific and cryptic enough not to advertise, to a local!

RE: Poorly Fish

Spring is just the time when the fish seem to get everything. It is unfortunately quite common to lose fish when you think they have overwintered fine. But when winter is quite long and the fish only have the healthy strength built up from last years food to keep them going their immune system is quite low. As the water warms up the parasites and germs laying dormant in winter start to attack the fish and the fish don't always have the strength to fight them off. I think you have done the right thing with the water change and the medifin.Take a look on the medication as you can often double dose. What I mean is wait so many days and then treat the pond again. It will tell you on the medication product. One thing to remember is if you have a UV that you turn it off throughout the medication time. I really hope you are over the worst. This happened to me a few years ago after I had had my pond 8 years. I was advised to put pond salt in and on doing so lost no more fish. This year I have lost only one fish. Last year and the year before none and 8 the year that I ended up having to put salt in. Previous to those years I had never lost a fish. It was awful to lose all those fish, but you should be comforted to know that it wont happen every year.
