Death of Minnows.
| | |
Posted by Saswaa Accrington (My Page) on Mon, May 23, 05 at 11:21
Over the last three days I have lost 7 Minnows that were bloated with blood excreted from their mouths. Is this to do with mating perhaps? The nitrate/ite and acid levels for my nature pond is spot on and these are the first deaths i have spotted in the pond.
Should I expect fry??
Cheers

Hi Steve, I don't know much about Minnows health, but I did use to catch them in a river as a kid (not that that qualifies me to give any advise). All I can think is it might be a bacterial infection causing bleeding in the gills/gut followed by death or a parasite problem in the gills causing the bleeding and the bloating occurs post mortem. I wouldn't have thought it's anything to do with mating, unless you live in Newcastle. Chris. |
