| Dear All
Hope you are all well.
After some research on the web I have found out Pieris Japonicus plants are in the highest category of poisionous plants to mammals. They are acid loving plants like Rhodedendron's which are also very poisionous. The leaves, flowers, and berries can cause severe convulsions burning in the mouth etc...
2 weeks ago we moved a Pieris next to the pond, shortly after the fish seemed to disappear. On inspection they were there but very scared. The plant has dropped a lot of the flowers into the pond over the last 2 weeks.
O M G what have I done?

| I'm afraid I don't know the answer, but I think I would skim or net out all the flowers possible, and then consider a partial water change. |

| I've had the same plant next to the pond for the life of the pond, and it is next to the most active part of the pond wildlife wise, and the toads and frogs hide under it at night. But it doesn't do all that well, as it is next to the liner it can get a bit dry there, so I was going to move it for it's sake. But now I'll move it for everyone elses sake too. thanks for your googeling, and hope the fish get over their scare. |

My pond is three years old. I have overhanging lime trees and the honeydew that falls in summer appears to pollute the water, so I had to do a partial water change last year because I was in danger of losing my fish. I spent months being fobbed off by the estate agent dealing with the rental of the property and the trees have never been cut back. I've bought a telescopic pruner this year (Thanks, Sean!) and I'll do what I can, but they are between 50 and 60 feet high. I had intended not using chemicals in my pond but I had to use something in the end. I got a product called 'Clear Pond' and it worked a treat. Maybe you could try it after moving the plant. Lucky you that you can get rid of the problem. Hope the fish all recover. Big Kid |
