Visited my pond this morning to find that a massive amount of tadpoles have vanised, plants knonked over, grass plants chewed & plenty of bird droppings. I presume its ducks, but not seen them, any ideas on how to frighten them off other than a shotgun. Would a kiddies toy windmill work???

Mike... I sympathise after having the same problem over the years. Not sure a kiddies wind thingie will work. At one point this year I had 6 of them at once!!! Touching lots of wood, they haven't visited the pond for a few weeks now. Someone told me that if you have moorhens you won't get ducks (MHs are not so destructive). Then out of the blue, this week I've had a moorhen spend a lot of time at my pond.

Hi mralp2. Try a super soaker or other heavy duty water pistol. They depart fairly fast if you spot them. (not so good if you are away at work).
They create an awful lot of havoc!
You could try a pond net suspended above the surface, but allowing access for amphibians/ bathing birds etc. I had one rigged up last autumn. I put bamboos around the pond pushed into the soil. Then I tied a string between each. Then draped the net and attached it to the strings with clothes pegs. Low tech buit it did the job.
