Well I don't know wether I should tell you this Bluenose as I wouldn't like to set paranoia on it's way into your head. As long as you haven't got any diamond-back sturgeons you're fine. I had a lovely diamond-back about 4-6 inches long. One day I noticed the Magpie swoop down and take it straight up in its beak. I ran out and managed to get the Magpie to drop it and managed to get it back into the pond, a little shocked by the whole ordeal. A couple of days later the diamond was gone never to return. I was so surprised that although there were many goldfish shubs and comets etc the Magpie only looked at the black sturgeon. I guess it was a delicacy. Never seen it happen again but I didn't invest in any more after that. The magpies breed in my sycamore tree and I never discourage them from coming to drink or feed near the pond but I was a bit more wary. |
