Help! Goldfish turning white...

Dear Pondies, HELP!

Some of my goldfish have slowly lost their gold colouration over the last 12-18 mths. Of the 5 goldfish only 2 have this condition and appear very happy and quite fat around the belly area. It is the belly area which is losing the gold colour. Please look at the pictures on the link below:

I can't work out how to put a picture directly into this post! I have tried for ages, please let me know if you can't access the images above.

The link didn't work for me. If you use the gallery (see the link on the forum page) you can show your pics easy.

As for the going white... this sometimes happens. I don't think the fish are ill or anything.

RE: Help! Goldfish turning white...

I wouldnt worry about the fish, they some times go white.
The address, URL, for the following photo is http://uk.msnusers.com/_Secure/0SgDvAigXInew*kO0gwzC71cNv9hzUYeByy9mlb!dUJKMtVGGqr8hkpu3fDjxkCCRCdaLei7geN5ExL80PtYD8i051*3P76f0zJNXzIYc5YoPAtNDv9APSQ/whitegold_1.JPG

Looks like a Sarassa comet [lol]
One of my old goldfish has been gradually turning white for years (they sometimes go white in old age) but the colour has no 'edge' to it like yours.
Looks like this is it's natural colouration, definately nothing to worry about.

Nothing to worry about, I've got 4 or 5 goldies that are now completely white. They changed from brown to gold to white last summer.

RE: Help! Goldfish turning white...

Thanks for all your help:

Sean; I will have a go using your explaination, but unsure where you obtained that long URL? I could post a new picture in the msn group but how would I find out its URL?

Retro and Scotty; thanks I feel much better now. I wonder whether it is a genetic or environment/diet thing? Would like to know if I can keep them gold some how.

Cheers
Mark

RE: Help! Goldfish turning white new pic...

Here is my first attempt at posting a new picture of my little whitegold fish......

 o
RE: Help! Goldfish turning white...

Well that obviously worked. Well Done.
I also have quite a few goldfish that are turning white. I would also answer the same as the others that there is no problem. Some just do it. It is a shame when you buy them gold and really want them gold though.
Sue how is your little dog now?

RE: Help! Goldfish turning white...

hi
marky.
goldfish/comets will turn white in clear water if u what them to keep there orange colour allow the pond to go pea green but then u won,t c them.

i know kio breeders leave there pond green because it brings out the colours of the kio and also helps them breed as they feel safe in the water.

all u have to worry about white fish they can suffer from sun stroke and there better targets for herons.

like all these guys have said - white fish are no biggie really! ive got one big tubby old female that develops a white belly every few years (she must be well into her twenties now!).
Congrats though - all your fish look big, healthy and full of vim and vigour - must be doing something right!

Alison thanks for asking
Little dog? I wish!
He's grown 2" in the 4 months we've had him (probably because he was so malnourished) AT LONG LAST his scabies has completely cleared up.
Progressing really well with his training but he's still a nightmare to take to the Vet and we get ordered out of the surgery if he has a screaming fit at the other dogs [lol]
But all in all he's progressing really well and is now (mostly) a pleasure to own in fact I think he may turn out to be THE best dog I've had!
As he loves jumping (he can easily clear my ponds)I'm thinking of taking him for agility training in the future.
My husband left the garden gate open yesterday and Tyson disappeared! DH went to look for him in the car and I retraced our usual walks. Came back home an hour later and Tyson was patiently sat at the back door waiting to be let in!
He sits for hours watching the fish (just keeping 'on topic') [lol]
For those who haven't seen this on the US conversation Forum...Tyson is a young rescue dog (Boxer x SBT)and was trouble with a capital T!!
