hello there! I seem to be having a bit of an infestation in my pond. On returning from a 2 week holiday i found that all the moss and weed on my water fall had vanished. on closer inspection when i turned the pump off i found the whole area infested with insect larvae clinging to the rocks! They look a little like mossie larvae and are about 3-4 mm long and hatch out of little brown casings. They only appear to be in areas with moving water.
I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what they are?
Oh yes, there are loads of little black flies around the pond so i presume there is a connection!
thanks! |

| Its not mosquito lavea, i am not sure what they are, but we had a problem with them a couple of years or so ago, the also cling to the sides of your pipe work, in my case they reduced the flow so much at one time it caused an overflow, cant advise on how to get rid either, i rebilt my pond and alterd the pipe wotk and havent seen them since, but they are a pain. and yes its the little black flies that hatch out of the clinging castors. |

| hi thanks for that. yes i had blockage trouble with them too, they were hatching inside my filter system! I think the only way to deal with them is romove them by hand. my pond is only in its first year so i will just have to put up with these problems till it naturalises i think! |
