| Hi All,
I cant belive how long it has been since i last posted on here. I must appologise to you all for not being vigilant with my psoting.
Kazzie- How goes the new pond? last i remember you were removing the old concrete one?
Ok well back to the subject of the post... how are all our lillys doing so far? I have 2 buds on the surface and one begining to opent as of today (think it will open in the next two days or so). The Lilly i bought from wilkos has put some lovely pads on the surface but no buds as of yet .. i think i might bring the pot up to the surface tonight and check below for any signs of flower buds.
Allngside the lillys the latifolia are comming into flower... and im soo excited ... i love the big brown flower heads and cant wait to see it come into its own.
Ohhh .. heres a thought.. has anyone tried to grow lotus? I still have one seed left and i really want to try and get it growing but am unsure as to if it is better to save it till i have a greenhouse.
Well i look forward to hearing form you all again.
I think i might put a picture or two on here during the weekend. |

| Crikey... you have a good memory. Pond is doing well thank you... I've got a good crop of blooming waterlilies at the moment, but I think a larger pad / flower would have looked better (I'll take a pic tomorrow). Nice to see you posting again! Looking forward to seeing your pictures. |

So Pond pics will have to wait... but i will post pictures over the years style. (starting with day one and going tru till photo day). It feels soo good to be back posting again. |

| Hi, I have two lily flowers out, both white and more buds coming. Last year I had pink flowers too, but none opened yet so far this year. I am assuming the brown buds will be pink as both white ones came from green buds. Looking forward to more! |

| So great to hear that the lillys are doing ok. So far mine have not opened yet. But with each day more and more are comming to the surface! At the last count i had 5 on the surface with another 6 at varying depths between the base and the surface. The lilly bought from wilko got raised to the surface yesterday and i saw one solitary bud. (can't wait will be a mixture of the old lilly (pink) and the new one (Red) but my minature lilly even still has no intention of flowering for me. (i'm not sure if i said before but it was in my mums pond and she had it for well over 6ish years with it never flowering for her either!!!) I checked the reedmace today and the flower spike is making good progress. What about everyones water hawthorns? Mine has gone into recession.. i have one very minature leaf and one part dead leaf.... this is my first ever attempt at these plants can anyone tell me if thats natural? Well must go.. the chickens need my attention. Have a Fintastic time Richard |

I have had several flowers on my water hawthorn, but it has been eaten by snails now. It had more flowers this year than last. Even if yours gets eaten, leave the pot so it can come up again next year. If you see snails actually on it, put them on the bird table! My fringed pond lily has plenty of leaves but no flowers yet. My frog bit resurfaced nicely and quite prolifically, but no flowers yet. My water violet always gets eaten before it flowers, but it's about a foot deep so this may be too deep. |

I have two (interconnected) ponds, one in full sun, the other shaded for part of the day. The lilies in the pond with full sun have enormous leaves this year but so far only one flower and can't see anymore buds at the moment. The lilies in the partially shaded pond, smaller leaves, masses of buds above and below the water...but not flowered yet. My tiny Pigmy lily always seems to 'come to life' and produce flowers much later in the year and only a few leaves have reached the top so far....so there's time for it yet Richard. This could be THE year. Sue |

My waterlilies are just coming up and finally a couple of leaves are a good size, but no buds or flowers yet. The waterhawthorn has just a couple of flowers, but doing okay. The primrose willow is sending out it's runners now I have taken away another two bin liners full of the watercress which has finished flowering. It was smothering the primrose so it will do better now. The yellowflag iris are just about finished flowering, but everything is looking good. Richard if you want to see some pics of Kazzies pond you can find some at www.the-horsfalls.co.uk/forum until she gets a chance to post some on here. Alison |

| It's odd, isn't it how different ponds re-act to their plantings? In early Spring 'phoxinus' offered white water-lily rhizomes here and was kind enough to send me one. This has already given me 4 lovely flowers, there are 3 more buds still under the water and the pads are quite large. So a big thank you to phoxinus! My three year old Firecrest, which I separated into three and repotted have done virtually nothing! Just a few measly little pads. Yet I potted them all up at the same time as the 'phoxinus' (don't know the variety so it has a new name!) and kept them in shallower water till they showed signs of leaf. The arrowhead and pickerel hyacinth bought at B & Q are both strong plants so I seem to have had better luck than some. Tricia |

| Hey thanks for continuing to add to the post girls n guyz :) Well so far my pink bud is slowly opening ... its almost unbearable how slow its going ... like a strip tease i can see the petals but just cant reach them :) Sue - hahahahahahaha... i really hope this is the year ... i guess that this is the first year it is probably at the correct depth... in all the time the family have had it it has been moved up and down the depths of each pond and has never shot up so manny pads as before this. I think though as its maybe at its optimum depth it might need that extra year to fully deveope its system for flowers. Strange also about the full sun/shade ... my pond gets all the sun from 6am till 11am then the sun re-appears at 1pm till 4pm when it dissapears again ... (im actually kind of greatful for the mid day break it gets or it might just be worse with the weed. Also am going to post pictures of before and after on the gal. forums :) toay :) any comments are very welcome :) Happy ponding all Richard |

| First lily opened today, and another bud on it's way. It's nice to see summer! |
RE: Waterlillys?

| This summer has been masked by the thunder and rain... i think i have found the reason for whay the lillys are having such small leaves!... they anticipated the heavy rain and didnt want to loose many leaves?!?! HEHEHEHE Well my lillys are all open now but looking really poor this year :( maybe its a bit early yet. i think i will give them a few more weeks to really get going after all its only just the start of summer ;) Richard |

hello all can anyone give me some advise I have a new pond about 5ths old there are 2 lillies which i bought off some very nice old man. one has verigated leaves the other is plain light green neither has flowered this year but the verigated one has gone nuts it must have about 30 leaves and more growing the other plant has 6 leaves but they are slightly bigger. the verigated lilly leaves vary in size from some as small as a ping pong ball to others the size of a tennis ball. any ideas on what is going on with the pair of them or is this quite normal please adv as I am a real beginner and teaching myself through trial and error |
RE: Waterlillys?

| They are probably in shock from the transplant, dont worry about them till next year. Some lilies do put up variagted pad, some put up green pads and some put up red pads early in the year. |

I had two pink lilies come up about a month ago and nothing since, Then last week I noticed 4 new buds. One is opening pink and the other larger ones are opening lemon. I am thrilled with this as I thought I was only going to get some pink ones. I think I have 2 or 3 different lilies in the pond so I wait with baited breath to see the lemon one unfold. I am worried about the wind though as it is very blustery here at the moment and it doesn't take much to knock the lily flowers over. I am very pleased with the size of the lily pads as well as they are the best this year. Alison |
