Tadpoles eating a goldfish!

Posted by stoneleigh_pond (My Page) on

We have got hundreds of tadpoles (toads) in our pond alongside 9 goldfish. We've not had the problem of goldfish eating tadpoles quite the opposite! One of our goldfish has a large, deep gash in it's back which the tadpoles have eaten away including part of it's fin. We've taken it out of the pond and are wondering what to do now. Will the gash heal? I was wondering if anyone has come across this happening before or if you have any advice? Thank you.

RE: Tadpoles eating a goldfish!

When tadpoles get bigger that change from eating algae and need meat or othe live food. I've never seen this happen, but I assume that is why they are doing it. They won't have caused the gash in the first place, but better to keep the fish separate until it has healed.
Some people pu in tiny bits of uncooked mince for them to eat at this stage.
