Fish flashing

| On Sunday I bought 2 small koi and stupidly didn't quarantine them and put them in my pond straight away. Since I put them in 1 has been hiding up nearly all the time in the plants, but the other one has been a bit more active swimming with the other fish. Today I have noticed a lot of my fish flashing and trying to rub against a drop in my pond (where it goes from about 2 ft to 3 ft). What does this sound like as I have read flashing usually means parasites? What do you think i should do and what treatment will solve the problem, something like malachite green?
Many thanks for your help |

| Ideally it would be best to take one of the flashing fish to the koi shop and have it scraped and scoped, which they can almost certainly do. If you could do it yourself, even better. If you take it to the shop you bought the two new ones from maybe tell them after they've done the diagnosis and demand some free treatment. It's more than likely parasites, flukes or costia probably. A formalin/malachite green treatment would work as a shotgun remedy if you can't diagnose but if it's flukes you need to treat twice with that I think in order to kill the eggs. |

| As Mark says flashing can be caused by parasites, it can also be caused by bad water, so do a water check first, it might be solved by a simple water change, if thats clear then you know its parasites, but make sure you treat properly and to the correct dosage or you will be back to square one in a month. |
