I am wondering if its possible to have too many plants, which then decay and increase the nitrate level? I have loads of oxygenators and say 40% covered with lil, maybe I should be reducing the oxygenators in the autumn?

oxygenators need to be trimmed a bit, they put oxygen in the water by day and take it out again at night, so keep on top of those.
