 o
Rudd & tench

Just cleared out a well-established small pond and found 6 rudd about 4 or 5 inches long, and 2 tench about 9 inches long. All presently in a kiddies paddling pool.

Not particularly keen on the rudd and the tench are hardly decorative. I also have a koi pond and the largest koi is around 24 inches. I've seen this one eat a frog so letting the rudd go in this pond seems a bit risky (for the rudd). Thinking of disposing of the rudd to my local pond shop and maybe putting the tench in the koi pond. Then re-stocking my small pond with a few goldfish.

Any opinions/advice welcome.

Alex

I know you shouldn't release them into the wild.
Otherwise, not being a koi keeper I don't think I can help.
I hope someone else can help.

Why don't you set up your small pond without fish and as a wildlife pond. You should get a greater variety of pond life if you do.

Good idea with the small wildlife pond. Decorative fish are great, but wildlife these days needs all the help it can get, and garden wildlife ponds make such a difference.

And the beauty of a wildlife pond is breathtaking!

...and you don't have to feed the fish, filter or test water etc. Or get too upset when herons call.
