 o
Heron attack

Posted by rayg UK (My Page) on

I came back after a week away to find only 3 or 4 fish left in my 2 ponds out of about 40 fish, my fears were confirmed when I saw a heron early next morning and every day since. I have since netted the ponds but he is still there every morning until I scare him away.If I had a gun I would have shot it,even if they are protected.
Anyone else had a similar problem?
Suggestions please.
Regards
Ray

RE: Heron attack

Ray I am so sorry to hear about the Heron attack. They are such a pest to us ponders. Beautiful creatures though. I hope that the net has worked and that once the Heron realises he can't get his early morning breakfast so easily he will move onto pastures new.
I am afraid that I haven't got any suggestions to help you except the normal one of a Heron decoy as they say that Herons eat alone and if another Heron is already at the pond the other will carry on to somewhere else.
I hope that after a while you will find some more of your fish and that the Heron hasn't got them all. The remaining fish will certainly be hiding away so you may find more than you think when they feel it is safe to come out. Here's hoping anyway.
