Heat pump not keeping up
Comments (3)hutch, I don't think I would judge the performance of your heat pump with temps in the 10 degree range. I assume this low temp is a rarity so I would just watch the 1st floor HP closely as the outside temps return to a more normal range. Since your 2nd floor HP is not running and able to maintain a temp of 65, then my observation is your 1st floor system is operating pretty good. There is no way to close off the second floor from the first floor? You might raise the thermostat on the second floor and see if this helps balance out the temps but I doubt this will help since heat rises. At these low temps, does your first floor HP run continuously or does it cycle and shut off occassionally? For now, I would just observe system. A 68 deg inside temp at 10 degree outside temp is darn good in my opinion....See More1/8" tubing to buckets keeps clogging
Comments (12)The tubing that delivers the nutrient is called 1/4" but it is really 1/8" ID and 1/4" OD. The main culprit of the clogs is perlite. But it only takes a tiny piece. I have the pumps in filter bags and the return filters through one of these set in a bottomless bucket in the sump. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=24071&catid=685. I think the issue is pressure, without breaking the bank on a pump they are all low pressure. Enough to make me remove all in line strainers and in line washer strainers. This is the system. The pumps feed into the manifolds and the tubing directs the flow....See MorePond pump clogging
Comments (3)I've been using a Harbor Freight pump for a bit now and really am liking it... plus a good price. For most submersible pumps you actually don't want the pump sitting on the very bottom since they can clog quickly from larger debris which you will need to net out by hand. That means putting it up on a brick or something else. It should indicate on the instructions the height off the bottom it should be positioned. Also look for one that can “handle” solids… meaning it will puree items pulled in. Regardless though if a few decent sized leaves sink down and make it to the intake grill… it will still block up and potentially burn you motor. The other option is to make a prefilter box around the pump and you won’t need to worry about raising it from the bottom. My pond is a bit larger then yours and I ended up putting my pump into a black egg crate on it’s side cutting out any plasitic to allow the output hose. Then get a mesh clothes bag… or mesh sports bag to wrap the whole egg crate and filter. The mesh will filter out any large things from getting to your pump. The mesh bag then synches down tight around the box. I got a cheap one at Dicks Sporting goods. If you get a black egg crate and black mesh bag…. The whole thing blends in nicely at the bottom....See MoreWhat is clogging my sump pump?
Comments (1)No idea what that is, never seen it before. Is there a cover on the pit, if yes open it up and see what is there. Leave it open and you should see the black 3 or 4" pipe entering the pit from the perimeter drain located on the outside of your foundation. If you see this substance is entering the pit through that pipe, there is a possibility they did not cover the pipe with fabric and something is getting through the perforated pipe....See Moredampflippers
